Can you imagine losing your hat… and ending up c Can you imagine losing your hat… and ending up creating an iconic piece of Western style? The story of the bolo tie begins in the American Southwest in the mid-20th century. Victor Cedarstaff, a silversmith and leather craftsman in Arizona, reportedly lost his hat while riding horseback. To keep the silver hatband from getting lost, he placed it around his neck like a tie. And from that little accident came the idea for the bolo tie we know today. There’s more to the story, though. Indigenous artists of the Southwest were also creating bolo-like neckwear around the 1940s, making its history a beautiful mix of cultures, craftsmanship, and tradition. Over time, the bolo tie made its way into Mexico and became part of Northern Mexico’s vaquero style. And for me, being born in Chihuahua and now living in Texas, designing bolo ties feels like creating a little connection between two places that are part of who I am. This month was filled with orders, custom pieces, deadlines, school events, and all the beautiful chaos that comes with being a mom of three and running a handmade jewelry business.
